Nepal

One part about my education that was incredibly special to me was studying abroad. Having been a life-long vegetarian and concerned about expressing kindness towards all beings, I have always been interested in cultures that hold these values as well. My family has continuously sought out opportunities to gain more understanding of world issues and cultures. When I discovered the opportunity to study in Nepal, I jumped on it. In the spring of 2003, I spent six months living and learning in Nepal. I took classes through the SANN International University in Kathmandu. Through this exchange program, I took intensive courses in Nepali language, religions, politics, and photography/photojournalism. Learning to speak Nepali was amazing! I picked it up quickly and love to have conversations whenever I have the chance. My time spent there also involved a three-week trek in the Himalayas; stays in Chitwan National Park and small villages; travels to Darjeeling, India; and a multitude of other experiences! Of all the fantastic things that I was able to do while in Nepal, what had the most impact on me was daily life.
